China Day 12 - Travel to Guangzhou

Another travel Day!  We packed up and left the Eastlake Hotel in Wuhan about 10:30am and were on the airplane by 1pm for Guangzhou, which took about an hour.  Sophie had a fit in the airport and we tried EVERYTHING to settle her.  We even changed her diaper which here is apparently a spectator sport. There about 20 Chinese women watching us with awed? bemused? pained? expressions on their faces.  All of that screaming actually worked out well because she slept most of the flight!

We checked into a beautiful 5 star hotel called the White Swan which caters to people adopting babies and it used to be very close to the US Consulate before they moved.  So we see lots of other people walking around with Chinese babies.  Then we took a little walk around the hotel area which is bustling with activity in this big city of 8 million people - 3rd largest city in China.

Checking out Guangzhou (formerly named Canton)

We went out to a restaurant on the riverside which was very nice and inexpensive - about $50 for 9 people to eat!  The babies got to walk around a lot, here is Sue retrieving two of them, including Sophie!

More restaurant pics, and the last one is Sophie eating her first ice cream.  Tim is concentrating on trying to stay clean.  It didn't work!  Sophie has burned through all of her clean clothes so tomorrow is washing day too. Guess what - there's a Chinese laundry down the street; several in fact!

Sue was sad to leave Wuhan because she felt like we will never be back there again and there is so much construction that it will never be the same.  We hope to bring Sophie back there when she's older someday so that she can see where she came from.  Maybe the boys will like to come too when they're older!
