China Day 6 - Hong Kong to Wuhan
We
made it to Wuhan in the Hubei province! We are missing Peter and Jack very
much and looking forward to seeing them again! 11 days to go!
Here is Tim on the little bed. We think the mattress may be made of some type of concrete. It is very hard, short, and close to the ground! The hotel is nice but not nearly as much as the Kowloon Shangri-La where we stayed in Hong Kong. The pollution here is incredible - kind of a fog all the time of industrial pollution that you can see even at night; I'll try to get a picture of it tomorrow.
When we got to the room they had it prepared for us & Sophie! A crib in the room with a toy for her, and a baby washtub in the bathtub! We are looking forward to giving her her first bath tomorrow night.
Here's a pic of the washtub in our room all ready for her! The safe is a little metal box that is not bolted down. Someone could easily carry it away! It didn't work for awhile but a repairman came and now it appears to lock. The internet connection didn't work for awhile either but they got that going too so I guess we'll stop complaining :)
After
filling out a bunch of paperwork for Sophie's arrival, we realized that we
needed to get another digital camera. We left the charger and battery in
the room in Hong Kong. Arrgh! So we bought a cheap one here in Wuhan
that won't go kaputz on us on the Big Day, and here is Tim trying to communicate
with the sales staff. His smile is FORCED!
By then it was getting late for dinner so we stopped at a place that was recommended to us by the adoption agency. There was NO English on the menu but there were pictures so we pointed at several dishes. When they came they were HUGE, and nothing was what we thought it was. What we thought were eggs in the picture were ribs of some kind of beast - God knows what! We ordered 4 other dishes besides and we had no idea what any of them were. They were meat dishes but nothing whose taste or texture we could recognize. But we were hungry so we ate them anyway like good little soldiers! I don't think we will be going back there anytime soon!
We are quite a novelty here and everyone is staring at us. The chefs in the kitchen were smiling at us and staring while we ate our meal. The waitress took the picture on the right and she was giggling at the strange bunch that we were. Rodney and Joy are pictured with us - they are the same couple that we met in Beijing.
