China Day 7 - Gotcha Day!!
At
10am today we were handed Lin, Rao, AKA baby Sophie Mei! We were put in a
room at the local registration office with 14 nervous pairs of parents, and 14
babies! When we walked in we knew right away which one was her -- she was
the one walking around on her own and looking at everything! She was dressed in
the cutest little Chinese outfit and multiple layers - the Chinese think a baby
should be kept WARM. It is probably 60 degrees out today but quite windy
and they really wanted us to RUN from the bus to the hotel (about 15 feet) to
avoid any air actually touching the baby :).
Here is my first picture of her before she was given to us. We picked her out of the lineup of all of the babies. Before they handed her to us we saw her walk over and give another baby a kiss. She is very curious and inquisitive. She cried a little but was very easy to distract with a toy. Now that we're back in our room we gave her a bottle and put her down to a nap, and she sucked on her blanket like Sam. She couldn't understand, but we told her all about Peter and Jack anyway! It was so wonderful to see all of those loving parents get little girls.
She seems to be adjusting to us right away; after a little while when she saw some other people she ran to Sue for comfort. On the bus Tim filled a bottle cap with cheerios and she entertained herself plucking them out. We are tickled "pink" to have her and can't wait to bring her home!
Here are more pictures of her at the Registration Office:
Finally we got back on the bus in a big line with all of the other babies!
At last we got back to our hotel where they had put up a Christmas display. Photo Op!

... and here are more pics of our first day with Sophie. She is very gregarious and outgoing. She walked up and gave another little baby girl a hug in the hallway today :) Also she had her first spaghetti meal so we had to take a couple of pictures to show Grandpa!
